SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Sandy police will be collecting unused or expired medications at the Senior Expo Utah.

The collection will occur Oct. 21 and 22 at the South Towne Expo Center.

Medicines should be in original containers with prescription numbers and personal information removed or covered with black ink.

Health officials say unused medications can take a toll on the environment and should be safely destroyed.

The Department of Environmental Quality has provided grants to local law enforcement agencies to provide collection boxes.
