SEOUL, Nov 12 (AFP) - Son Cho-Rong of South Korea clinched the International Female Boxers Association (IFBA) minimum-weight title Saturday with a unanimous decision over Melissa Shaffer of the United States.
Son, 18, sustained a cut to the left eyebrow from butting in the ninth round but outpunched Shaffer in the remaining rounds to become the youngest female champion in the world. It was her sixth win against no losses.
In a second title match in Seongnam, south of Seoul, IFBA flyweight champion Choi Shin-Hee of South Korea defended her first title by knocking out Japanese challenger Jet Izumi in the fifth round. She has seven wins and one loss.
South Korea's IFBA junior flyweight champion Kim Ju-Hee won a unanimous decision over Marianne Chubirka of the United States, defending her title for a second time.
