Raised in the business since he was a little boy, Jordan Wong is a natural at running a restaurant. And the success of his family's newest business in Salt Lake City, J. Wong's Asian Bistro, is proof of that.
Salt Lake Magazine recently named J Wong's Asian Bistro as "Best Chinese Restaurant." This is quite an accomplishment for a restaurant that is only a year and a half old! Located at 163 W. 200 South in Salt Lake City, this is one more example of how effective the "Downtown Rising" initiative is in bringing new business to the heart of our state capital, which is critical in overall growth to the state of Utah.
I was impressed to watch how Jordan greets all guests with warmth and confidence. He explained that although the restaurant has been open for a short time, the Wong family has been in the food business for more than 20 years.
The inspiration for the Thai/Chinese cuisine came from Jordan's mother, Kwan Wong, who currently operates the successful China Platter in Bountiful. She opened J Wong's Asian Bistro as a partnership with her four sons.
Kwan taught her sons how to work and honor their Thai background. She thought it was important that at least one of her sons understand the language and culture, so she sent Jordan to live in Thailand with his extended family members. He now speaks fluent Thai and gained valuable hands-on experience on the authentic presentation of the food he and his family serve at J. Wong's Asian Bistro.
This restaurant is very much a family affair. One son, Jason, is the restaurant chef who brings 30 years of experience to the bistro and prepares the Asian menu with fresh ingredients. This approach to food preparation has helped generate a large following. When you have a chance to order one of the two signature dishes, tangerine chicken or walnut shrimp, you will understand why.
J.Wong's Asian Bistro has a wonderful dining atmosphere that will accommodate a large group of up to 60, and while the weather permits, outside dining is also available. You will surely enjoy the Asian décor, but the food is the main attraction.
