Last week Amanda and I celebrated (and, yes, that's the right word) 14 years being on the air together doing the morning show at KSL. That first morning 14 years ago was not without it's peculiarities....for example we were off the air for a little more than an hour because of a technical issue...but the first program proved to be acceptable enough so that we were invited back the next morning to do it all over again.
And here we are still at it.
My wife Kay and I have had two children during that time.....Amanda and her husband Aaron have had two children....we have gone through vehicles, wardrobes, hairstyles and weight gain and loss....irritated clients and listeners....attended numerous functions representing the station....and had the pleasure of working together during the Olympics.
We were on the air during the horror of 9-11....broadcast the aftermath of Trolley square, Oklahoma City, Columbine and, more recently, Virginia Tech. We were able to broadcast the happy results in the search for Elizabeth Smart and Brennan Hawkins.
We never find our jobs boring and look forward to coming to work each morning, never knowing what kind of story we will cover.
Older....maybe wiser....certainly grateful for the opportunity to be here every day. We love what we do and nothing would please us more than to be here another 14 years. Our goal is simple....to outlive the listeners we've annoyed.
