PROVO -- BYU is looking to help its students get more access to homegrown fresh fruit and vegetables by holding a farmer's market at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
- 50% Growers (free registration)
- 30% Arts and crafts (free registration for students and faculty/staff only)
- 10% Bakers (free registration for students and faculty/staff only)
- 10% Local restaurants (fee required)
Dean Wright, director of the school's dining services, said the school wants to turn the Stadium Farmers Market into a weekly Thursday event this fall starting Sept. 23, and then continue it through the summer months in coming years. The event will be held at the south end of the stadium.
"Our goal is to support the BYU community -- especially the students -- who do not have ready access to homegrown products," said Wright in a press release.
BYU does not want the event to turn into a "swap meet," so it's put regulations in place to make sure 50 percent of the vendors are growers.
The school also plans to have live music and other entertainment. It also says BYU Creamery ice cream and bookstore fudge will be available.
