(KSL News) -- Interstate-15 traffic in Weber County is flowing again after a multi-car crash that left two people dead this afternoon.
A semi-truck apparently hit a passenger car on Southbound I-15, forcing the car off the road, through a fence, and into a canal. The semi then hit another semi-truck transporting cars.
UHP troopers performed CPR on 63-year-old Marilyn MacDonald of Brigham City, the driver of the car, until medical crews arrived. The woman, who was traveling alone, was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the first semi-truck, a 42-year old male from California, was also pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second semi was taken by ground to a hospital with some injuries.
Derek Jensen, Dept. of Public Safety: "It appears there was some slowing in the area because one of the lanes had been shut down. Apparently an onion truck had spilled its load in the median earlier in the day. So they were in the process of cleaning up some of that and had one of the lanes shut down. And there was slowing in the area and that's when the rear-end collision occurred."
Speed and following too closely may have been a factor. Road conditions in the area were dry at the time.
The crash happened about 1:15 p.m. on I-15 near milepost 350. Southbound I-15 was closed at mile marker 350 and traffic was diverted off at the S. Willard Exit onto SR 126 and Highway 89.
