PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Provo is a family town. The Provo and Utah Valley area have been named one of the top five places for families.
Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine made the designation. The magazine ranked cities for five each of the five stages in life -- young singles, midlevel professionals, married with kids, empty-nesters and retirees.
The Utah Valley area came in fourth in the married with children category. Number one was Atlanta, followed by Minneapolis/St. Paul and Des Moines, Iowa. Green Bay, Wisconsin, came in fifth.
According to the magazine the criteria for the best cities for families balanced the needs of children with those of parents. Low crime and a low overall cost of living were important factors, as was a strong student-to-teacher ratio, wholesome environments and plenty of activities for families.
