Keeping in tune with the message of Deseret Media Companies' Read Today initiative, KSL wants family reading to be fun and wants them to know how important it is.
"It's very important for parents to start reading with their kids, not just in the school year, but in the summer. So we tried to get a program to help families jump into reading," said Neil Wilkinson with Temple Square Hospitality, an event participant.
Event planner Angela Folsom said, "Reading is fun. It's something we want children to fall in love with and make it not a homework assignment, but something they love to do and will continue to do."
"This is Utah's book festival," said Gail Halliday with Deseret Book. "With the backdrop of the University of Utah, with the commitment and resources of the companies of DMC, and with our amazing sponsors, this is really coming together to be a statewide celebration of reading."
The KSL Book Festival takes place Saturday, Aug. 28, at the University of Utah at various places on the campus. It begins at 10 a.m. RC Willey has provided 100 Read Today backpacks for the first 100 kids who arrive.
