OGDEN -- A skydiver died Wednesday after a mishap over the Ogden airport.

Ogden police Lt. Danielle Croyle told KSL Newsradio Thursday 29-year-old Arlyn Ray Creek of Gardiner, Mont., was moments from touching down when another skydiver nicked Creek's parachute with his foot.

The parachute collapsed and Creek found himself in a freefall of 60 to 100 feet.

When emergency crews arrived, Creek was badly injured. He was later pronounced dead at Ogden Regional Medical Center. "It's an unfortunate accident and our condolences go out to the family," Croyle said.

Creek was part of a group of 12 skydivers who had bought their own way on to a plane and paid for their own equipment.

Croyle said the skydivers were all highly-trained. The medical examiner is investigating the death and an autopsy is planned, though Croyle does not expect any charges to be filed.
