PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A community reading program in Provo has picked a book aimed at curbing bullying.

Beginning this fall, the Provo Reads Committee will be promoting the book "Freak the Mighty" by Rodney Philbrick.

The book focuses on the issue of bullying and won approval with much support from parents and school district officials.

Provo School District director of student services Greg Hudnall says there's a state curriculum on bullying, but it's not enough.

Hudnall says more than 200 bullying incidents were tracked in one month at 11 schools in Provo district.

Parents can expect to start hearing more about the program next school year at back-to-school nights. A kickoff with district superintendent Randy Merrill and Provo Mayor Lewis Billings is scheduled for September 5.
