SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A 71-year-old woman has entered a guilty plea to charges that she shot and killed her former daughter-in-law in a school parking lot earlier this year.

Mary Nance Hanson pleaded guilty to a charge of murder in 3rd District Court on Wednesday without striking a deal with prosecutors.

Defense attorney Tawni Hanseen told The Salt Lake Tribune that Hanson wanted to take responsibility for her actions.

Prosecutors say Hanson fired multiple shots into the car of 34-year-old Tetyana Nikitina as she prepared to leave the Salt Lake Community Action Program Head Start in January. Nikitina had divorced Hanson's son in 2005.

Judge William Barrett has set a sentencing hearing for Oct. 8. Hanson faces a prison term of 15 years to life.
