WASHINGTON COUNTY -- A wildfire burned dangerously close to Interstate 15 in Washington County Tuesday afternoon.

The fire is about halfway between St. George and Cedar City, near Ash Creek Reservoir.

Firefighters say they've got the fire mostly out now, but it was quite a site for I-15 motorists earlier in the day. A KSL News producer sent us video that shows the flames right up next to the road.

Fire crews say the right northbound lane of I-15 is still closed in the area while they continue to mop up hot spots. However, traffic can get by on the left lane.

Right now, investigators are unsure what sparked the blaze. It's estimated to have burned about 17 acres.
