SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Police say one man may be responsible for a carjacking and two robberies in Salt Lake County in the past 24 hours.

Two Wells Fargo banks were robbed Tuesday, and police say it may be the work of a man on a "rampage." The first branch, located at 235 S. 1300 East, was robbed just before 10 a.m.

About an hour later, a second branch was robbed -- this one at 4711 S. Highland Drive. Police said in both robberies, the method was the same.

It appears this guy knows what he is doing. He's not nervous, he approached the tellers and demanded money.

"He went in and brandished a handgun in his waistband and he demanded money," said Lt. Don Hutson with Unified police. "They gave him money and he left the bank."

Employees at the branch on Highland Drive watched the man as he got into a white, four-door sedan and drove off. Police say the description of the man and the car is the same in both robberies.

The suspect did change T-shirts in between each robbery, but had the same demeanor.

"It appears this guy knows what he is doing," Hutson said. "He's not nervous, he approached the tellers and demanded money."

In both robberies, the suspect got away with some money, though police won't say how much.

Police say a carjacking that took place at Jordan Commons in Sandy Monday night may be related to the bank robberies. An 83-year-old man and his date were leaving a movie when a man in dark clothes demanded the keys, showed a gun and fired once in the air.

Police say the vehicle that was stolen -- a white 2009 Toyota Camry with Utah license plate Z87 7FW -- is just like the one the robber used to get away in Tuesday's bank robberies.

In addition, the description of that suspect is very similar to the one in the bank robberies. Police say they are not ready to confirm the carjacking is related, but are looking into it.
