WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton - already one of the biggest Democratic campaign fund-raisers in the nation - has set up yet another way to collect cash, The Post has learned.
Clinton has teamed with Sens. Maria Cantwell (Wash.), Diane Feinstein (Calif.), Debbie Stabenow (Mich.) and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to form a joint fund-raising committee.
The group is called "Women Senate 2006" - and is the third organization that Clinton has established for megapolitical fund-raising.
The existing two are "Friends of Hillary," which raises money for her Senate re-election, and "HillPAC," which hauls in bucks to help Clinton and other Democratic candidates around the nation.
Recently filed federal records show Women Senate 2006, which began gobbling money only in late September, transferred $8,000 on Sept. 30 to the Friends of Hillary account.
Friends of Hillary raked in $5.3 million in the third fiscal quarter to swell its piggybank to $13.8 million - one of the biggest war chests in the Senate.
Campaign spokeswoman Ann Lewis said Clinton joined the cash klatch "because that's legally required in order to participate in an event where proceeds will go to all the senators. The $8,000 represents the first installment of our share of the proceeds."
Clinton's coin cascade continues tonight when HillPAC, her political action committee, hosts a rocking fund-raiser tonight at U2's "Vertigo 2005" tour stop at Washington's MCI Center that is expected to raise at least $45,000.
