SALT LAKE CITY -- The Rockettes are coming to town. They will be in Utah to perform a special show for the first time in November, and some of the dancers showed up at the Gateway Mall for a preview Thursday.

What is... the Radio City Christmas Spectacular?
In 2008, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular national tour debuted to rave reviews in 18 cities with the launch of the largest production in the show's 77 year history. This year the tour is expanding to 31 cities, making it the most cities the breathtaking Christmas Spectacular has ever toured in one season.

Any young woman who wants to be a Rockette must be between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10-1/2-inches tall and be proficient in jazz and tap dance. But if you've ever wanted to prove you can kick just like the pros, now is your chance. Along with making a special announcement, the Rockettes are also here to ‘Kick for a Cause.'

It was Christmas in August at the Gateway Mall downtown. The world famous Radio City Rockettes kicked off the announcement to fans that they are coming to Salt Lake City as part of their "Christmas Spectacular" tour.

With nearly 80 years of performing history, the Rockettes say they are thrilled to finally be visiting the valley for the first time.

One Rockette who's a Salt Lake native says it's about time.

"I'm so thrilled. This is my fourth year as a Radio City Rockette and I've always thought, 'This is the perfect show for Salt Lake City,'" said Talese Hunt. "I can take my 3-year-old niece and everybody in my family all the way up to my 90-year-old grandparents."

But the Rockettes are doing more than just performing in Salt Lake. They're working with several charities, hoping to reach 1 million kicks.

They're asking fans to videotape or take pictures of themselves doing dance kicks to post online. Once they've reached their goal, the Rockettes will donate 5,000 tickets to give needy children a chance to experience the Christmas magic.

Fans at the Gateway began kicking Thursday, and many simply couldn't hide their enthusiasm.

But don't worry, they don't have to be eye-high kicks. The Rockettes just want any type of kicks.
