(KSL News) -- Just a couple weeks ago the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held its semi-annual General conference. President Gordon B. Hinckley spoke about a woman who chose to forgive.
A teenager faced 25 years in prison for a senseless crime. Ryan Cushing, now 18, threw a frozen turkey at a car and hit Victoria Ruvolo.
The injuries she recieved almost killed her; every bone in her face was shattered, but Ruvolo chose to be compassionate.
She pestered prosecutors with questions about her attacker and urged them to offer him a plea agreement. Cushing took the plea agreement and will now have a second chance at life.
Victoria Ruvolo, Victim: "When he came over to see me and apologize, his eyes started swelling up. And he took me in his arms and I just did what anyone would do and comforted him. Like I said, he needed that hug as much as I did."
Ryan Cushing, Assailant: "I just want her to go on with her life and, um, I love that woman."
A year after the accident Ruvolo has finally returned to work. She still suffers memory loss and is working to overcome her fears of getting back in a car.
