SALT LAKE CITY -- A judge has ordered a West Valley man to stand trial on charges he killed his live-in girlfriend.

At a preliminary hearing for Thomas James Valdez Wednesday, a medical examiner testified that the victim bled to death from extensive injuries to her torso and head.

Prosecutors say Valdez admitted beating 55-year-old Maralee Andreason because she told him she was having an affair. Her body was found in March in an apartment the two shared.

Valdez also faces charges of possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
