PROVO -- A Provo police officer has been charged with sexually abusing a woman on the scene of a traffic accident.
Jeffery Westerman, 33, is charged with forcible sexual abuse and obstruction of justice in connection with the incident on July 22.
Prosecutors say while Westerman was investigating a minor traffic accident he told a 29-year-old female driver involved that she would be arrested unless she exposed herself to him. The woman had failed field sobriety tests.
The woman then went to the police to report what had happened. Surveillance video from a nearby business substantiated the woman's claims.
When asked about the incident, Westerman allegedly made false statements to investigators. Provo city officials say he was terminated July 27.
