SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah is on a new top 10 list -- but it's not something to brag about. A top anti-virus software company says Utah ranks No. 7 in the nation when it comes to getting spam e-mails.
Around 92 percent of the e-mail people receive in Utah is spam mail. That number comes from Symantec, a company that puts out a report each year on the percentage of spam mail sent to each state.
Utah comes in seventh this year with Idaho in first.
X-Mission President Pete Ashdown suggested one reason may be the number of computer users in the state of Utah.
"We are a very high per-capita computer use state," he said. "I would imagine that our e-mail addresses get out there a lot more actively than other states that are lower."
Ashdown says it's a big problem, and internet service providers are adjusting filters every day to keep spam out.
