ST. LOUIS, Oct 17, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- ZZ Top's Billy F. Gibbons is using the pen as well as the guitar these days, publishing "Billy F. Gibbons: Rock and Roll Gearhead."

The 192-page, coffee table-style memoir has more than 200 photographs documenting his guitar and automobile collections.

"It was a labor of love," says Gibbons, who co-wrote the book with Los Angeles-based journalist and producer Tom Vickers. "It took about six months of good, honest, hard work, and we just went deep into what we love the most. And what made it most interesting was the fact that we were pulling out things that I had forgotten about."

Gibbons' text includes details about ZZ Top's career as well as Gibbons' experiences with musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry and Janis Joplin.

ZZ Top plans to begin recording a new album later this fall for release in 2006.
