PROVO, Utah (AP) -- City leaders in Alpine and Highland are trying to raise money for the purchase of a drug-sniffing dog for local police.
Lone Peak Police Sgt. Dave Boerner says the $12,000 dog would be a first for the department and help reduce drug-related crimes. The department provides police services for both cities.
Boerner says the German shepherd would also be trained in explosives detection and search and rescue. The department has raised $3,500 so far and hopes to have the balance by the end of August.
The Bank of American Fork and Kohler's grocery story are sponsoring a raffle to help with the effort. Tickets are $1 each and the winner gets a $1,000 shopping spree at the grocery store.
