SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah's Hogle Zoo is preparing to celebrate the first birthday of its elephant Zuri.
The zoo will celebrate the African elephant with toys, presents and a large cake on Aug. 14. The first 500 guests will also receive a free birthday cupcake.
The zoo welcomed the African elephant calf on Aug. 10 last year. She is the first baby for 23-year-old Christie and the first African elephant born at the zoo.
The public voted to help pick Zuri's name, which means adorable or beautiful. Nearly 10,000 ballots were cast and among five choices, Zuri picked up nearly half the votes.
