SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Salt Lake County civic leaders will mark construction of a community center with a Wednesday groundbreaking ceremony.

The $18 million Millcreek Community Center is expected to open in early 2012.

County officials say the building's design call for energy saving features to reduce operating costs and maintenance. Those include solar panels and a geothermal heating system.

Among the facility's planned amenities are an expanded library, a senior center, a gymnasium, fitness and weight rooms, an indoor running track, a cafe, and a reconfigured park with new playgrounds and landscaping.
