SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Disabled Utah residents may be eligible to apply for a monthly general assistance payment if they make their application during a three-day window this week.

The program provides physically or mentally disabled adults without dependent children a monthly check of $261 during the time period while their application for federal disability benefits is being processed.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18, able to verify a physical or mental health impairment that prevents basic work activities for at least 60 days and must not be receiving unemployment benefits or Social Security disability payments.

Application can be made Tuesday through Thursday online at jobs.utah.gov or at any Department of Workforce Services Employment Center.
