Dennis Larson always had a goal to start his own accounting firm. It wasn't long after his graduation from BYU that he saw his dream come to pass with the opening of Larson and Company.

When he launched the firm in 1975, Dennis decided to focus on the insurance industry. At the time, he didn't know of other local accounting firms that specialized in insurance. His company steadily grew over the years, and in 1993 he made an important realization. Most companies focused so much on providing the best services for their clients that they missed out on creating opportunities for employees.

Dennis developed a system he calls expectation agreements through which his employees are allowed to design their own career and are rewarded for personal and professional improvements. With motivation for personal improvement, Dennis' employees became even better accountants. A couple of partners also developed specialties such as high-level income tax services for publicly-held companies.

Two years ago, Dennis met an accountant whose firm had a similar history to Larson and Company, so they decided to merge their two companies and form Larson and Rosenberger. Today, Larson and Rosenberger is a full-service accounting firm and the premier provider of auditing, tax, and compliance services to the insurance industry. In fact, the company is the fifth largest insurance auditing firm in the West. It specializes in tax provision work for publicly-held companies and provides tax and business services to closely-held businesses and independent contractors.

Dennis has found it rewarding to watch the company grow and he now has 11 partners and a total of 70 employees. Larson and Rosenberger is headquartered in Sandy but has two additional offices in Utah and another in California. Dennis anticipates the company will eventually expand throughout the West and, with its focus on insurance companies, possibly go international.
