TOOELE (KSL News Services) -- Tooele police say a suspect in a gang-related murder is expected to surrender to authorities this week. It comes as authorities in Tooele are seeing a spike in gang activity. The murder rate has started to highlight a growing problem with gangs in bedroom communities like Tooele.

Tooele Police Sergeant Steve Swartzfager says they're putting a band-aid on the problem but resources are limited. Even in an alley right behind the police station, gang graffiti is all over buildings and sheds. "In the last few years we have seen that increase. Population for one thing, I mean we’ve really grown.”

He says they'll need the community's help to combat the growing problem. “We’re putting a band-aid on it. Because there’s enough of the activity, we’re not being very preventive about it.”
