LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles police released video footage Wednesday of a man they believe tried to set fire to a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the video shows a man carrying a backpack of combustible material and a thermos cup walking onto the Los Angeles temple grounds at 1077 Santa Monica Blvd. on May 17.

The suspect, who appeared to be in his late 20s, was wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans.

The video shows the man unsuccessfully trying to open a locked door.

Los Angeles police say just three hours later, a suspicious fire broke out in the temple's garden area.

Police did not say how they got the video footage or how it was shot.
