SALT LAKE CITY -- The oldest African elephant in the United States had a 50th birthday bash at Utah's Hogle Zoo Saturday.
Visitors welcomed Dari to the public spotlight by singing her "Happy Birthday." She even got her own birthday cake covered in peanut butter, apples and grapes.
Caretakers say she's very entertaining and smart.
"She's very good at what she does, which is the matriarch of our herd," said Eric Peterson, a member of the animal care staff. "She's very easy to train and she's a very good girl."
The party was 60s themed, commemorating Dari's birth year and the year she arrived at Hogle Zoo.
