KUWAIT CITY, Sep 28, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Women from 15 Arab countries who want to learn how to run for an elected office have begun to gather for a meeting in Kuwait.

The participants will discuss issues like how to conduct a campaign and how to overcome problems faced by female candidates in their countries, the Voice of America reports.

One effort would be to teach the participants how to go after the undecided voters.

The participants noted that family ties are a key part of politics in many Arab countries. They say a candidate of either gender could be educated and competent but still run into problems if he or she lacks the right family background, the report said.
