ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah (AP) -- Zion National Park will shift road work on the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway to night in response to complaints from local business owners.

Businesses in Kane County had raised concerns last week that the daytime road work would keep customers away.

Under the new schedule, construction will go on from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday. A start date for that schedule hasn't been determined.

Work was originally going on from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Zion spokesman Erik DeGroat says the park was happy to work with businesses. But DeGroat says the project will take longer to complete and will be more expensive under the new schedule, in part because keeping the area well-lit will cost money.
