Colorado Springs scored two runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back, as the Sky Sox cruised to a 5-2 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Tuesday night. Colorado Springs, which took the lead in the top of the first in each of the four games of the series, grabbed the advantage on RBI singles by Jay Payton and Omar Quintanilla. After the Sky Sox extended their lead to 3-0, the Bees pulled to within one on back-to-back home runs by Terry Evans and Jeff Mathis to open the fourth inning, but that would be all the offense that Salt Lake could muster in the game.
Will Smith (1-4) took the loss, as he allowed four runs on nine hits in five and two-third innings with four strikeouts and one walk. Evans and Brandon Wood each had two hits to lead the Bees, as they drop three out of four to Colorado Springs.
