UINTA COUNTY -- A Bureau of Indian Affairs federal officer was killed Monday night in a vehicle crash in Uintah County. It happened in the area of Bottle Hollow Reservoir, on the Ute Indian Reservation.

The Utah Highway Patrol says Officer Joshua Yazzie, 33, was responding to a call when the accident occurred. As he came to a curve in the road, Yazzie somehow lost control, overcorrected and rolled his vehicle.

As it rolled, the patrol car fell roughly 200 feet off the side of an embankment. Yazzie was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the car. He died instantly.

Duchesne County, UHP and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are now investigating the crash.

Yazzie leaves behind a wife and two children.
