SALT LAKECITY -- U.S. Senate candidate Mike Lee clarified his stance on nuclear weapons testing.

Last week, the Republican candidate said he would be open to new underground nuclear testing.

But he told the Salt Lake Tribune Wednesday that he would likely vote yes on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, an international treaty banning nuclear weapons tests.

That support would hinge on language in the treaty allowing nations to resume testing if it is deemed to be in their national security interests.

Tim Bridgewater, Lee's opponent in the Republican primary, said he would not support the treaty.
