Man Critically Injured in Shooting on Redwood Road

One person fired two shots. A bullet went through the rear-passenger door of a dark-colored Mazda, hitting a 23-year-old man in his arm and stomach.

Friends rushed him to the hospital where he underwent surgery and is in critical condition.

Originally, the victim told police road rage was to blame, but as detectives conducted more interviews this morning, there appears to be another motive.

Lt. Rick Findlay, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "We think there is going to be some kind of gang involvement, at least on the part of the suspect vehicle, just from the descriptions that we have gotten, and the attitudes taking place during the altercation. As far as linking it to actual gang involvement or gang motivated crime, we haven't been able to do that yet."

A witness in the area saw the shooting and called police, describing the vehicle as a white Toyota RAV but no license plate.

Detectives are picking up their investigation this afternoon, hoping to get more answers.
