Hit animated franchise SHREK is set to be turned into a Broadway musical.
DreamWorks Animation head JEFFREY KATZENBERG has announced that as well as plans to produce SHREK 3 for a 2007 release, preparations are also underway to unveil a New York stage production.
Katzenberg was inspired to launch a stage version of Shrek after seeing the success The Walt Disney Company has enjoyed with Broadway productions of the animated hits THE LION KING and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
He says, "When these things work, they are very, very, very powerful and seemed to go on for a very long time." (RGS/LA/IG)
