TOOELE, Utah (AP) -- A Utah soldier had been home for less than 24 hours when he was killed last week in an accidental shooting.

Authorities say 29-year-old Sergeant Travis Neil of Pleasant Grove was shot in the chest on Friday when his wife accidentally fired the gun in his direction.

Deputies say the couple had gone to Tooele County, so Neil could show his wife how to shoot. The couple had picked up a shotgun that day and had been shooting clay pigeons in a gravel pit along State Road 73 near Tooele.

Authorities say Neil's wife, Christina, was looking for something in the vehicle when she lifted the shotgun and it discharged.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Neil will be buried with full military honors in the Utah Veterans Memorial Park Cemetery at Camp Williams on Thursday.

Neil joined the Utah National Guard in 2002.
