Gene Kennedy reportingShe faked cancer to scam the community out of nearly 16-thousand dollars. Today, a judge sentences Tania Clark.

Tania Clark sobbed before the court, saying, "I'm haunted by the people I hurt. I'm so sorry." Clark said she deserved jail but begged not to be put behind bars, hoping for just probation.

The judge sentenced her to 30 days in jail, far less than the one-year sentence the state hoped for.

The prosecutor claimed Clark has scammed people before, allegedly embezzling money from a church in Texas.

This morning, authorities took Clark away in handcuffs. She couldn't make a statement but her attorney did.

Colleen Coebergh, Clark's Defense Atty.: "She's glad it's over. She's a little frightened as we all would be."

Clark told the judge she faked cancer to get more attention from her husband. She told the judge she did have cancer once and her husband paid more attention to her when she was sick.

Colleen Coebergh, Clark's Defense Atty.: "She has mental health issues that have been identified. She felt very neglected, a great need to get attention from her spouse who as a DEA agent worked very long hours"

Clark's husband was unaware what his wife was doing. She even duped her neighbors and the parents of her sons' hockey league to donate money for her so-called cancer condition.

The judge called Clark a "sad and tragic case", ordering her to pay more than five-thousand dollars in restitution, plus 200 hours of community service and mental health counseling.
