SALT LAKE CITY -- April is National Foster Care Month. With that in mind, the Utah Foster Care Foundation honored very special Utah moms Thursday.

Naomi Martinsen is a Salt Lake Valley "Foster Mom of the Year."

Salt Lake City mayor Ralph Becker and former Utah governor Olene Walker honored Naomi and other foster mothers at the City-County building.

"Naomi, I'd like to honor you today as one of the 2010 foster mothers of the year and offer thanks on behalf of not only all of us in Salt Lake City, but around the state for being such an example for foster moms in the Salt Lake Valley," Becker said.

Naomi was nominated for unselfishly opening her home to foster kids throughout the state and has worked tirelessly to reunite families affected by drug abuse.

"I support foster care and everything that it stands for, and I love every minute of it," she said.

There are more than 2,600 kids in foster care in Utah, about half of which are from the Salt Lake Valley.
