SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- An annual survey of how Utah's youth are faring shows the number of teens having babies is rising.
The data is in the "Measures of Child Well-being in Utah," survey compiled by the advocacy group Voices for Utah Children.
The survey says the total number of children in Utah is 849,835 -- 23 percent more than in 1996, the first year data was collected.
Between 2004 and 2008, the most recent year with complete data, the number of births to teens climbed more than 30 percent, to 1,122 from 854.
The survey also found a nearly 70 percent increase in the rate of Chlamydia infections in young Utah women.
