(Salt Lake City-AP) -- One of the plaintiffs in Salt Lake City's Main Street plaza dispute is pulling out of the lawsuit -- and is hoping for a move to Washington instead.
Craig Axford is expected to announce today that he'll be seeking the Democratic nomination for Utah's 1st District seat in Congress.
Axford already ran for Congress on the Green Party ticket, but he now says the Green's electoral stategy isn't likely to get anybody into office around here. Instead he's trying to form a more progressive wing to the Democratic Party.
If he gets the Democratic nomination, Axford would face Republican Rob Bishop in 2004. Bishop is serving his first term.
As for the Main Street plaza lawsuit, Axford says he's withdrawing because he doesn't want that issue to become entangled in the congressional campaign.
