(Washington-AP) -- Texans in Congress pushing for a national Amber Alert system welcomed today's news that Elizabeth Smart has been found.
Salt Lake City authorities say Smart is doing well. The 15-year-old vanished from her bedroom last June.
She was found alive today in a Salt Lake City suburb with a drifter who had once done work at the family's home. A woman was also in the car.
The adults have been taken into custody.
U-S Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison says she's thrilled beyond words that Smart is safe.
Amber Alerts are named after nine-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnapped and murdered in Arlington, Texas. Her killer has never been found.
U-S Representative Nick Lampson founded the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus.
Lampson says today's good news on Smart is the light at the end of the tunnel for her family and friends.
