SALT LAKE CITY -- The final numbers are still being tallied, but the money raised from a huge two-day automobile auction this past week brought in several million dollars.
The collection of nearly 200 vehicles previously belonged to Jeffrey Mowen, who's in jail facing charges of defrauding investors in a Ponzi scheme. A judge ordered the sale of the collection.
The auction attracted more than 2,500 people from 20 states and seven foreign countries. There were bidders from as far away as Finland, China and Australia.
When the auction was done, fewer than 20 vehicles remained unsold. The least amount paid by a bidder was about $1,500 for a motorcycle, and the highest price paid was $57,000 for a copper colored Shelby Cobra Replica.
The money raised from the auction will be held until the conclusion of Mowen's trial.
