SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah House has approved a bill that would give universities the ability to evict students with as little as three days notice.
Under House Bill 238, if a student is found violating a school's on-campus housing contract, the student could be evicted in three days if personally contacted by the university or five days if contacted by mail.
Bill sponsor Rep. Kory Holdaway, R-Taylorsville, says the purpose of the bill is to eliminate lengthy dealings with outside agencies over on-campus evictions.
The bill passed in the House unanimously Thursday and will be sent to the Senate for further debate.
