SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Vehicle registration fees will go up by about $20 a vehicle under a plan the Legislature has approved.
The Utah House reversed course Wednesday afternoon and decided to approve the fees as part of a package to issue up to $2.2 billion in bonds for road construction projects.
Earlier in the day, the House killed the plan because some Utah County lawmakers didn't want to raise fees to balance the budget.
That upset GOP leaders who decided they would kill the bill unless everybody from that county agreed to vote yes.
Utah County is a primary beneficiary of the bond money -- it will receive about $1.7 billion in funds for Interstate 15 reconstruction.
By Wednesday afternoon, nobody from Utah County opposed the bill. It now advances to the governor.
