(KSL News) Past, present and future came together at the ribbon cutting ceremony at Washington Elementary School.
The school was built on the site of the original Washington Elementary, which was built in 1893. Stones from the original building sit out front, and some of the steps were part of the school's original foundation.
School officials and the community were able to offer input into the design for the new building.
The building has lots of open space and the classrooms are wired for future technology.
"I feel like a princess in a castle," principal Joann Price said. "And all of our teachers, the children, the first day they walked in, it was amazing. Their mouths just dropped open."
As part of the ceremony the school put together a time capsule that included pictures, CDs and a school lunch menu.
