Alex Cabrero ReportingYou're probably used to seeing school buses again and students are getting used to homework again. But in one Utah school it's going to take some time to get used to something that's in no other school in the state.

The first day of classes at Daybreak Elementary was yesterday. It's a brand new school with lots of the traditional items, like books, desks, and a cafeteria. But there are some new things too, the most noticeable is a public community center, something no other school in the state has.

Community Center Sets Daybreak Elementary Apart

Put a TV camera in front of a bunch of school kids and well, you get what you ask for. Alex Brown and Madison Zeller were busy today helping us.

Madison Zeller, 5th Grade: "We went on a tour around the new school."

They were among the group of officials showing off the new Daybreak Elementary in South Jordan.

Doree Strauss, Principal, Daybreak Elem.: "The walls are movable so you can create large spaces in the middle."

New features include a pod-type style of learning where classes surround a central-learning area. There's an enhanced audio system and lots of windows, but it's the community center that caught our eye. There you can do exercises and aerobics, just like any other gym.

Doree Strauss: "I love the community center idea, and the reason I like it is because it brings parents into the school."

But some worry it'll also bring others into the school who shouldn't be there.

Doree Strauss: "It's the first one and I think with any big change and things that are the unknown, it does make people nervous."

Strauss understands that, and promises security features will keep students safe and parents at ease.

Brenda Zeller, Parent: "I think they put the safety measures in place to take care of that issue."

It's something kids shouldn't have to worry about.

Alex Bown, 6th Grade: "We just go out on the playground and walk around and stuff."

Construction of the community center is still going on and it'll be a couple of weeks until it's ready to go.
