With key teammates out, Antetokounmpo steps up with 59 points to lead Bucks over Pistons in OT

Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers wasn't sure it was a good thing that Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 22 of the team's 24 first-quarter points. But Rivers could smile about it after Antetokounmpo finished with 59 points in the Bucks' 127-120 overtime victory against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. It was the highest total by any NBA player this season and five short of Antetokounmpo's career high of 64 set last season against the Indiana Pacers. Antetokounmpo says with three keys players out, he realized that he needed to be aggressive while getting his teammates involved.

Desmond Claude scores 26 points, helps Southern Cal hold off UT Arlington 98-95

Desmond Claude scored 26 points and made consecutive shots down the stretch to help Southern California beat UT Arlington 98-95. Claude made a layup and jumper to give USC a 94-90 lead with 19 seconds left. Jaxon Ellingsworth hit a 3-pointer to pull UTA to 94-93 with 12 seconds to go before Terrance Williams II and Saint Thomas each made a pair of free throws. Josh Cohen scored 19 points and Williams finished with 18 for USC (3-0). Jaden Wells scored 27 points and Ellingsworth had 19 for UTA (1-2), which made 16 3-pointers.

Turner scores 24 as UC Santa Barbara takes down Fresno State 91-86

Deuce Turner scored 24 points off of the bench to help lead the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos past the Fresno State Bulldogs 91-86. The Gauchos are now 3-0 with the win and the Bulldogs dropped to 1-1.

Rantanen has 9th career hat trick, Avalanche beat Kings 4-2

Mikko Rantanen scored twice in the third period to complete his ninth career hat trick, and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-2. Rantanen's goal at 10:01, his second of the night, gave Colorado the lead in the third and he added an empty-net goal with 1:59 remaining for his second hat trick of the season. Artturi Lehkonen also scored and Alexandar Georgiev made 13 saves for the Avalanche. Nathan MacKinnon, who had three assists, has at least one point in 16 of 17 games this season and all 10 home games. Los Angeles goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 18 saves before leaving early in the third period with an apparent injury. David Rittich finished with three saves. Adrian Kempe had two goals, including one 32 seconds into the game, for the Kings.

LeBron James has third straight triple-double as Lakers rally for 128-123 victory over Grizzlies

LeBron James had 35 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds for his third straight triple-double and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 128-123 on Wednesday night. Anthony Davis scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter. He picked up his fifth foul with 3:51 remaining in the third quarter, then came back in with 6:48 left and hit a couple of pivotal baskets, including a 3-pointer with 4:51 remaining to put Los Angeles up for good at 111-108. James was 13 of 22 from the field, hitting 4 of 7 3-pointers. Jaren Jackson Jr. had 29 points for Memphis, which had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Moni, North Dakota State defeat Santa Clara 88-80 in OT

Jacksen Moni scored 19 points, including nine in the overtime, as the North Dakota State Bison took down the Santa Clara Broncos 88-80 on Wednesday. The Bison improved to 2-2 with the victory and the Broncos fell to 1-2.

Louisiana Tech wins 76-66 over UMass

Led by Amaree Abram's 19 points, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs defeated the UMass Minutemen 76-66.  The Bulldogs are now 3-0 on the season, while the Minutemen dropped to 1-2.

San Francisco wins 84-54 over Long Beach State

Led by Malik Thomas' 15 points, the San Francisco Dons defeated the Long Beach State Beach 84-54. The Dons improved to 3-0 with the win and the Beach fell to 1-2.

Nicolas Roy, Tomas Hertl and Pavel Dorofeyev score and Golden Knights hold on to beat Ducks 3-2

Nicolas Roy, Tomas Hertl and Pavel Dorofeyev all scored, and the Vegas Golden Knights held on late to beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2. Shea Theordore had two assists and Adin Hill made 22 saves for Vegas. Jack Eichel got his 20th assist of the season, second-most in the NHL. Brock McGinn and Frank Vatrano scored for Anaheim. Lukas Dostal made 37 saves and Brett Leason had two assists for Anaheim. Vatrano's goal with 13 seconds left in the third period brought the Ducks within one, but they couldn't get another shot off before the final buzzer.

Wembanyama shrugs off 50-point performance that leaves teammates in awe as Spurs top Wizards 139-130

Victor Wembanyama had a career-high 50 points and the San Antonio Spurs rolled to a 139-130 victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. Wembanyama was 8 for 16 on 3-pointers, also setting a career high, as San Antonio won its second straight. At 20 years 314 days, Wembanyama is the fourth-youngest player to score 50 points, trailing only Brandon Jennings, LeBron James and Devin Booker. Wembanyama is the eighth player in San Antonio franchise history to score 50 points in a game. David Robinson holds the franchise record with 71 points against the Los Angeles Clippers on April 24, 1994.

Dusell scores 17, Nevada takes down Weber State 88-58

Led by Xavier Dusell's 17 points, the Nevada Wolf Pack defeated the Weber State Wildcats 88-58. The Wolf Pack are now 3-0 on the season, while the Wildcats dropped to 1-2.

Fox, Kings beat short-handed Suns for 2nd time in 4 days, 127-101

De'Aaron Fox had 29 points and 10 assists, Kevin Huerter scored a season-high 22 points and the Sacramento Kings beat the Phoenix Suns 127-101 on Wednesday night. Domantas Sabonis added 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to help the Kings to their second victory in four days against the Suns, who were without Kevin Durant for the third straight game because of a strained calf. Josh Okogie had a season-high 25 points and eight rebounds for the Suns, who also were without Bradley Beal (calf) and Grayson Allen (hamstring). Devin Booker had 18 points. The Kings' DeMar DeRozan did not play in the second half because of lower back tightness.

Sharpe and Clingan power the Trail Blazers to a 106-98 victory over the Timberwolves

Shaedon Sharpe scored 33 points, Donovan Clingan narrowly missed a triple-double with 17 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks on Wednesday, and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves for the second straight night 106-98. Anthony Edwards scored 24 points as Minnesota squandered an early lead and dropped its third straight game. The teams entered the fourth quarter tied before Portland took control behind the defense of Clingan, who had four blocks in the period as Minnesota missed 10 of its first 11 shots to start the final frame.

Utah scores 3 goals in 2 1/2 minutes in 3rd, Vejmelka has 49 saves in 4-1 win over Hurricanes

Nick Bjugstad scored his second goal of the game to cap the Utah Hockey Club's three-goal flurry in a 2 1/2-minute span of the third period in a 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Jack McBain and Mikhail Sergachev also scored for Utah, which won at home after losing three of four on the road. Michael Kesselring had two assists and Karel Vejmelka had a career-high 49 saves to get his first win in five games. Martin Necas scored for Carolina, which lost for just the second time in 11 games and ended a streak of nine straight games with at least four goals. Pyotr Kochetkov gave up three goals on 18 shots before he was replaced after giving up Sergachev's goal that made it 3-1 at 7:11 of the third period. Spencer Martin stopped two of the three shots he faced.

Back in Top 25 spotlight, No. 22 St. John's puts away Wagner to set up Pitino father-son showdown

In their return to the national rankings, Rick Pitino and his St. John's team finished much better than they started. Deivon Smith drained a 3-pointer midway through the second half to spark an 18-0 spurt that propelled No. 22 St. John's past Wagner 66-45 for its first victory as a Top 25 team in almost 10 years. St. John's jumped into the AP Top 25 poll this week for the first time since January 2019 and earned its first win as a ranked squad since topping Tulane in December 2014. Now the schedule gets much tougher, beginning Sunday at Madison Square Garden against a New Mexico squad coached by Pitino's son, Richard.

Nunu Agara had career highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double and No. 24 Stanford pulled away late for a 69-56 win over UC Davis. The Cardinal led most of the way but struggled to put away the Aggies, whose only lead was 47-46 in the last minute of the third quarter and were tied at 51 with 8:40 to play. Stanford then reeled off 12 points with Agara, a sophomore, getting seven.  Davis missed four-straight shots and went 2 of 9 down the stretch with four turnovers. Courtney Ogden added 16 points, including a buzzer-beating 3 at the end of the third quarter for a 49-47 Stanford lead. Brooke Demetre had 11 with eight rebounds. Mazatla Harris scored 17 points for the Aggies.

Brief altercation between fans mars France-Israel soccer match despite heavy security

There was a brief altercation between a small number of fans early into Thursday's Nations League soccer game between France and Israel despite heavy security inside the stadium, a week after violence erupted in Amsterdam in connection with an Israeli club team's visit. Around 10 minutes after the game kicked off, there was scuffle in the top section of the stand behind one of the goals at Stade de France. It was not clear what caused the altercation and security intervened after around one minute. The match finished in a 0-0 draw with no further incidents. But Israel's national anthem was whistled by some fans when the players lined up. A total of 4,000 police officers and security staff were deployed.

Dawson Baker made six 3-pointers and scored 22 points, Keba Keita had a double-double and BYU jumped out early and beat Queens 99-55. BYU (3-0) opened on a 28-2 run and built a 51-26 halftime advantage. Trevin Knell scored 14 first-half points for the Cougars and Egor Demin added nine. The Cougars shot 64.5% (20 of 31) and made seven 3-pointers before the break. Queens, which lost to Utah 96-65, is the second school to play the Utes and BYU on back-to-back nights since the 1998-99 season. Maban Jabriel and Jaxon Pollard each scored nine points for Queens (2-2).

Andrej Jakimovski hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points in Colorado's 83-53 victory over Cal State Fullerton. The Buffaloes led 35-29 at halftime before exploding for 48 points in the second half. Colorado shot 62% in the second half, including 7 for 14 from deep. Colorado led 55-43 with 8 1/2 minutes remaining in the second half before outscoring the Titans 28-10 to finish the game. Jakimovski shot 6 for 12 from the field and made 5-of-8 3-pointers. Julian Hammond III scored 11 points and Sebastian Rancik's 11 points off the bench included the final five points of the game on a 3-pointer and a dunk.

Antetokounmpo scores 59 and Bucks beat Pistons 127-120 in overtime

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 59 points to pace the Milwaukee Bucks to a 127-120 overtime victory over the Detroit Pistons. It was a league-high for points by an NBA player this season and the second-highest single-game total for Antetokounmpo, who had 64 against Indiana last season. Antetokounmpo hit 21 of 34 shots and 16 of 17 free throws and added 14 rebounds and seven assists as the Bucks rallied from an 18-point second-half deficit. Brook Lopez added 29 points for the Bucks. Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 35 points and Malik Beasley had 26 against his former team.

Johnson, Williams each surpass 100 yards rushing to lead Northern Illinois over Akron 29-16

Telly Johnson Jr. and Gavin Williams each ran for more than 100 yards, wide receiver Trayvon Rudolph accounted for two scores and Northern Illinois shut out Akron in the second half in a 29-16 victory. Johnson had 104 yards rushing on 21 carries. Williams ran nine times for 101 yards that included a 71-yard touchdown run that ended the scoring with 7:56 remaining. Rudolph scored on a 58-yard reverse and threw a 39-yard touchdown pass for Northern Illinois (6-4, 3-3 Mid-American Conference). Ben Finley tossed a 40-yard touchdown pass to Adrian Norton for Akron (2-8, 1-5).

North Texas leads Minnesota most of the way, holds off Golden Gophers 54-51 to move to 3-0

Rondel Walker scored 14 points and undefeated North Texas led for most of the way and held off Minnesota for a 54-51 victory. Dawson Garcia scored six points during an 8-2 surge to pull Minnesota to 52-51 with 30 seconds left. Following a North Texas timeout with 3 seconds to go, Brenen Lorient added a dunk and Lu'Cye Patterson's midcourt heave bounced off the backboard. Garcia shot 6 of 9 from the field, made all 10 of his free throws and finished with 24 points to lead Minnesota (2-1).

Tomislav Ivisic scored 20 points, Ben Humrichous added 10 and Illinois overcame 18 turnovers to beat Oakland 66-54. Illinois has started a season 3-0 for the fourth time under Brad Underwood, and the second time in three seasons after starting the 2022-23 season 4-0. Illinois had its lead trimmed to 38-36 early in the second half before going on a 17-4 run for a 55-40 lead. Ivisic started the run, that included 11 straight points, with three made field goals. Oakland was just 2 of 10 from the field during the run. Ivisic was 9 of 14 from the field, while the rest of his teammates combined to go 14 of 41.

No. 14 Creighton routs Houston Christian 78-43, Greg McDermott becomes Bluejays' career wins leader

Ryan Kalkbrenner scored 16 points, Steven Ashworth added 13 and No. 14 Creighton blew out Houston Christian 78-43 to make Greg McDermott the Bluejays' all-time coaching wins leader. McDermott has won 328 games at Creighton since taking over for Dana Altman in 2010. Altman, now at Oregon, won 327 games from 1994-2010. The Bluejays held Houston Christian to 25% shooting and the lowest point total against them since 2017. The 7-foot-1 Kalkbrenner continued his torrid shooting, going 6 of 6 from the field to put him at 35 of 38 through three games for a nation-leading 92.1%. D'Aundre Samuels led the Huskies with eight points.

Mozee runs for 196 yards, Gabbert tosses 2 TD passes and Miami (Ohio) topples Kent State 34-7

Keyon Mozee ran for a career-high 196 yards, Brett Gabbert threw two touchdowns passes, and Miami of Ohio rolled past Kent State 34-7. Gabbert completed only 40% of his passes in the first half, going 8 for 20, but averaged 23 yards per completion. Among his 187 yards were his touchdowns of 69 yards to Reggie Vigil and 34 yards to Javon Tracy. The RedHawks led 17-7 at halftime and added two touchdowns in the third quarter, the second one being Mozee's 74-yard run that blew open the game at 31-7. The RedHawks climbed back into a tie for first place with Bowling Green and Ohio, all with 5-1 records in Mid-American Conference play.

Navarro has career-best passing day, runs for 4 TDs to lead Ohio over Eastern Michigan 35-10

Parker Navarro passed for a career-high 277 yards and ran for 106 yards and four touchdowns to lead Ohio to a 35-10 win over Eastern Michigan. The defense contributed a season-high four takeaways against an Eagles team that had seven turnovers coming in. All of the Eastern Michigan giveaways went to quarterback Cole Snyder, who came in with three interceptions but threw one on three consecutive drives. He also suffered a strip sack. Those turnovers led to 21 points. The backbreaker was the third, when Tank Person jumped an inside route and nabbed the ball at the Eastern Michigan 25 for his second pick. On the next play Navarro went around the left side to make it 21-7. Snyder finished 18 of 30 for 155 yards with a touchdown pass to Delbert Mimms III.

Marcus Smart returns to Grizzlies after missing 6 games due to ankle injury

Marcus Smart returned for the Memphis Grizzlies Wednesday night after missing the last six games due to right ankle sprain. Smart did not start against the Los Angeles Lakers, but came in midway through the first quarter. The 6-foot-3 guard, who is in his 10th season, averaged 5.6 points in his first five games before being injured in the first quarter of a 119-106 loss to Brooklyn on Oct. 30. Smart only played 20 games last season after dealing with a sprained left foot and an injured finger.

John Tavares scores in OT as the Maple Leafs rally to beat the Capitals 4-3

Mitch Marner tied it in the final minute, John Tavares scored the overtime winner and the Toronto Maple Leafs rallied from a two-goal third-period deficit to beat the Washington Capitals 4-3. William Nylander sparked the comeback with his goal with 4:09 left and set up Marner's 6-on-4 power play goal with 47.8 seconds left in regulation with goaltender Joseph Woll pulled for an extra attacker and Washington's Nic Dowd in the penalty box. Nylander's heroics came 24 hours after his turnover on the first shift put the Leafs on track to a dud of a shutout loss at home.

JT Toppin scores 24, Chance McMillian 16 and sizzling Texas Tech routs Wyoming 96-49

JT Toppin scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, Chance McMillian added 16 points and hot-shooting Texas Tech routed Wyoming 96-49. The Red Raiders had scoring runs of 14-0 in the first half and 22-0 in the second half. Texas Tech outscored Wyoming 22-2 over the final six minutes. Texas Tech led 74-47 before Anderson hit a couple of jumpers from two-point range and McMillian hit two 3-pointers to open the 22-point run. At one point in the second half, the Red Raiders made 12 consecutive shots. The Cowboys misfired on nine of their last 10. Texas Tech shot 77% in the second half, 64% for the game.

Carlton, Holle score 15 apiece to lead No. 4 Texas to a 95-58 win over Lamar

Freshman Justice Carlton and senior Shay Holle each scored 15 points and No. 4 Texas defeated Lamar 95-58. Holle converted 3 of 4 3-point attempts. Carlton added three steals. Madison Booker of Texas (2-0), an AP preseason All-American, missed the game with a sore hamstring and her status is day-to-day. Freshman Jordan Lee started in place of Booker and scored 12 points. Bryanna Preston, also a freshman, added nine points, four assists and two steals. Akasha Davis led Lamar (1-1) with 14 points. Sabria Dean scored 13.

No. 18 Arkansas uses second-half run to beat Troy 65-49

and had three blocks. After the run, Troy didn't come within single digits again as Arkansas avoided a letdown following Saturday's loss to No. 8 Baylor. The Trojans shot just 36% in the second half and were 0 for 8 from three-point range. Jackson Fields led Troy with 13 points.

Broome, Johnson score 18 apiece to lead No. 5 Auburn to 79-56 win over Kent State

Johni Broome had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Chaney Johnson also scored 18 points to lead No. 5 Auburn to a 79-56 win over Kent State. The Tigers raced to a fast start and then fought off a second-half rally on the heels of a 74-69 win at then-No. 4 Houston that vaulted them six spots in the AP rankings. Chad Baker-Mazara and Denver Jones had 12 points apiece for Auburn. VonCameron Davis led Kent State with 19 points despite playing just 18 minutes after early foul trouble.

Jalen Green scores 21 points in the Rockets' 111-103 victory over the Clippers

Jalen Green had 21 points and Amen Thompson and Tari Eason added 18 each to lead the Houston Rockets to a 111-103 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night in the opener of a two-game set. The Rockets trailed by 11 early but had taken a five-point lead by halftime. They used a huge run at the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth to push the lead to 19. James Harden had 19 points for the Clippers, who lost a second straight after winning four in a row.

Thunder beat short-handed Pelicans 106-88 for 2nd straight win without injured forward Chet Holmgren

Jalen Williams scored 31 points, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 29 and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the short-handed New Orleans Pelicans 106-88. The victory was the second straight for the Thunder without Chet Holmgren. Oklahoma City was coming off a 134-128 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. Brandon Ingram scored 18 points, Trey Murphy added 14 and Yves Missi had 10 points and 10 rebounds for New Orleans (3-9), which outrebounded Oklahoma City 58-31, but was slowed by 24 turnovers.

Cheeks puts up 23 as Dayton beats Ball State 77-69

Led by Enoch Cheeks' 23 points, the Dayton Flyers defeated the Ball State Cardinals 77-69 on Wednesday night. The Flyers moved to 3-0 with the win and the Cardinals fell to 1-2.

LaVine scores 31 points, White hits winning free throws and Bulls outlast Knicks 124-123

Zach LaVine scored 31 points and Colby White had 22, including the winning free throws with three seconds left, as the Chicago Bulls outlasted the New York Knicks 124-123. The Bulls led by as many as 22 in the third quarter, but the Knicks rallied and went ahead 123-121 on Jalen Brunson's bucket with four seconds remaining. On the ensuing possession, White was fouled by Josh Hart on a 3-point attempt and made all three. Brunson's potential winner rimmed out at the buzzer. Karl-Anthony Towns scored a season-high 46 points for the Knicks. Nikola Vucevic had 19 points for the Bulls.

Mercy Miller had 12 points off the bench, and J'Wan Roberts and Emanuel Sharp each added 11 points for Houston, which rebounded after losing to Auburn 74-69 on Saturday night. The Cougars, who have won a 24 straight at home, shot 45.6%, including 10 of 23 from 3 and outrebounded Louisiana 46-28. Christian Wright had eight points, and Chancellor White, Kentrell Garnett and Kyndall Davis each scored seven points for Louisiana (1-2). The Ragin' Cajuns shot 32.6%.

Nebraska's home streak reaches 15, Gary scores 19 in 86-60 win over Fairleigh Dickinson

Juwan Gary scored 19 points and Nebraska led for all but 19 seconds en route to an 86-60 win over Fairleigh Dickinson for the Cornhuskers' 15th-straight win at home. The Cornhuskers had 12 players score and 11 grab a rebound. Terrence Brown had 23 points and eight rebounds for the Knights, who also lost by 26 at No. 16 Creighton on Sunday. Ahmed Barba-Bey had a 3-pointer and the Knights were within 58-49 with 11 minutes to go but Brice Williams had five points to ignite an 11-2 run for a 20-point lead with 5:26 to play. Nebraska had a 43-31 rebounding advantage and 17-8 difference in turnovers. The Huskers were 23 of 28 from the foul line to 7 of 11 for the Knights.

Edvinsson's OT winner powers Red Wings past Penguins 3-2

Simon Edvinsson scored 1:30 into overtime, and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2. Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist for Detroit. Jonatan Berggren also scored, and Cam Talbot stopped 32 shots in his 250th career win. Kane scored during a power play in the second. It was his first goal since Oct. 24 and his third on the season. Anthony Beauvillier and Bryan Rust scored for Pittsburgh.

The Washington Capitals have reunited with veteran center Lars Eller. Washington has sent a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick to Pittsburgh for Eller, who spent seven seasons with the Capitals and helped the club win the franchise's first Stanley Cup in 2018. The 35-year-old Eller had four goals and three assists in 17 games with Pittsburgh. He was in the second season of a two-year deal he signed with the Penguins in the summer of 2023.

Mike Tyson isn't in the mood for talking now that the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion's fight with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is near. Tyson and Paul meet Friday night at the home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. The issue of Tyson's health didn't come up at a news conference about 20 miles from AT&T Stadium. A bout originally scheduled for July 20 was postponed after Tyson had to be treated for a stomach ulcer when he fell ill on a flight. Officials say Tyson has been cleared medically and is undergoing checkups the same way any fighter would for a sanctioned bout in Texas.

Forlán and Coria were granted wild-card entries to play doubles in the tournament. The Uruguayan striker retired from soccer in 2019 after playing in top clubs such as Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan. Injured Florida quarterback DJ Lagway practiced for the third consecutive day, making progress toward a potential return against No. 21 LSU. Coach Billy Napier says Lagway "is getting closer and closer to being prepared to play." The highly touted freshman was carted off the field with a strained left hamstring against Georgia on Nov. 2. He returned to the sideline in the second half with his legged wrapped and using crutches. Tests revealed his injury was "less significant" than initially feared, and Napier expects him to play again this season. The Gators could use him. They need to win two of their final three games to become bowl eligible.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen shrugs off the hype being generated in advance of AFC East-leading Buffalo hosting Patrick Mahomes and the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The Anaheim Ducks have placed forward Robby Fabbri and defenseman Cam Fowler on injured reserve. Anaheim recalled center Jansen Harkins and defenseman Drew Helleson from their AHL affiliate in San Diego. Fowler missed the Ducks' past two games with an upper-body injury. The veteran defenseman leads the Ducks in ice time this season and has recorded two assists in 12 games while seeing ice time on the penalty-killing units. Titans eager to clean up their mistakes and score more points after halftime

Check the stats. The Tennessee Titans' struggles after halftime are easy to see. Two-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons said Wednesday those issues are why the Titans are where they are. He says they're not finishing, especially in the second half of games. He said they need to suffocate teams for four quarters. It doesn't help that an offense that struggles to find the end zone at any point after the opening kickoff is much worse after halftime. The Titans rank 27th in the NFL in averaging a mere 17.4 points a game. They're last in the final 15 minutes of games.

Seahawks right tackle Abe Lucas could make his first start of the season against 49ers

Seattle Seahawks right tackle Abe Lucas was activated off the physically unable to perform list on Wednesday and could be in line to make his first start of the season. Lucas was a third-round pick out of Washington State in 2022 and started 16 games before a knee injury limited him to just six games in 2023. Lucas last played on Dec. 31 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He underwent knee surgery in January.

The items in the auction belonged to the Hall of Famer and had been held by his daughter, Claudia, who died in December. Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa dropped back to pass Monday and threw the ball toward Jaylen Waddle. Before the receiver could haul in the pass, Rams linebacker Christian Rozeboom hopped in front of him for the interception and turned upfield as Tagovailoa and the Dolphins chased him down. Then Tagovailoa did something that stunned many people watching. The QB, who has suffered multiple concussions in his NFL career, lowered his body and made a headfirst tackle. Part of Rozeboom's leg hit Tagovailoa's head. The play was quickly spread around social media, mostly because of Tagovailoa's history with scary head injuries.

Green Bay's new defensive scheme under first-year coordinator Jeff Hafley has produced more turnovers but hasn't yet resulted in an upgraded pass rush. The Packers have an opportunity to change that this weekend. Green Bay showed confidence in its other pass rushers by sending veteran Preston Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2025 seventh-round pick last week. The Packers (6-3) play their first game since that trade when they visit Chicago. The Bears fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron after a 19-3 loss to New England in which they allowed nine sacks.

Aaron Rodgers' stint with the New York Jets could still extend beyond this season despite plenty of losses and disappointments. The star quarterback will turn 41 on Dec. 2. He insisted Wednesday that the Jets' 3-7 start during a tumultuous season has not changed his stance that he wants to play beyond this season. Rodgers' future beyond this season has come into question in recent weeks, particularly because of his mediocre play during the worst start of his 20-year career. Rodgers endorsed interim coach Jeff Ulbrich by saying he's a leader of men and the quarterback would love to play for him until the end of his career.

Matt Eberflus insists he takes responsibility for the Chicago Bears' failures on offense. He also realizes he's on his third play-caller in 2 1/2 seasons as coach after firing an offensive coordinator for the second time in 10 months. He let Shane Waldron go this week and promoted passing game coordinator Thomas Brown, hoping he can get the most out of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Waldron lasted just nine games after he was hired in January to replace the fired Luke Getsy. Brown will try to get more out of an offense that ranks near the bottom of the NFL. The Bears are averaging fewer yards per game than only two teams.

FanDuel Sports Network regional channels will be available as add-on subscription on Prime Video

Diamond Sports Group has reached a multiyear agreement with Prime Video to make its 16 regional sports network channels available as an add-on subscription. FanDuel Sports Network RSNs will be available for customers living within each team's designated geographic area. The 16 networks cover fans in 31 states. Prime Video announced earlier this year that it would buy a minority stake in Diamond Sports. A final hearing on Diamond's bankruptcy reorganization plan is scheduled for Thursday. Diamond Sports has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the Southern District of Texas since it filed for protection in March 2023. The company said in a financial filing last year that it had debt of $8.67 billion.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy had an injection in his right knee earlier this week to alleviate swelling that arose during his rehabilitation program. Coach Kevin O'Connell said the injection would not set back the rookie's progress toward returning in 2025. McCarthy was the 10th overall pick in the NFL draft. He tore his meniscus during the first exhibition game on Aug. 10 and had season-ending surgery. The former Michigan star has progressed to where he is regularly attending meetings and practices.

Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne's status is uncertain for Saturday's game against Louisiana-Monroe. Tigers coach Hugh Freeze said Thorne did not practice during the open date last week after injuring his right, throwing shoulder in a loss to Vanderbilt. Freeze said Thorne would "for sure" not have been ready to play as of Tuesday's practice. Thorne's backups are Hank Brown and freshman Walker White. Omenihu has been on the PUP list after having surgery to repair an ACL that he tore in the AFC title game against Baltimore.

A final verdict in the doping case involving top-ranked Jannik Sinner likely won't come until early next year. But to the president of the Italian tennis federation the case has already been won. Sinner has won both of his opening two matches at the ATP Finals.

UCLA is riding a revived rush offense during a three-game winning streak

UCLA was 1-5 at the halfway point of coach DeShaun Foster's first season, and nothing embodied the Bruins' struggles better than their nonexistent rush offense. But after three straight wins, fueled by a resurgent ground game, UCLA has found itself starting to turn around what looked like a lost year. Gardner Minshew will remain the Las Vegas Raiders' quarterback when they visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Coach Antonio Pierce made the announcement Wednesday after considering going with the recent pickup Desmond Ridder. Minshew is completing a career-high 67% of his passes. Last season, they allowed nearly two touchdowns more as the Buffaloes finished 4-8. It's all coming together on both sides of the ball as Colorado remains in the thick of not only a Big 12 title chase but earning a seat at the table in the College Football Playoff. Texas Rangers hire 2023 NL top manager Skip Schumaker as a senior adviser

The Texas Rangers have hired former Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker as a senior adviser for baseball operations. Texas announced Schumaker's addition to its front office on Wednesday. The team also signed right-handed pitcher Luis Curvelo to a one-year contract calling for the $760,000 minimum while in the major leagues and $90,000 while in the minors. Schumaker was the 2023 NL  Manager of the Year after Miami went 84-78 and made the fourth postseason appearance in club history. The Marlins slipped to 62-100 last season after a GM change and with a roster decimated by trades and injuries.

Law enforcement reports show the homes of Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce were broken into last month. Before practice on Wednesday, Mahomes described it as "frustrating" and "disappointing." The break-ins were first reported by TMZ. They happened just before and on the day of the Chiefs' 26-13 home victory over the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 7, as Kelce's superstar girlfriend Taylor Swift watched from the stands. No injuries were reported in either case. Mahomes said he couldn't provide many details because the investigation is ongoing. He described it as "something you don't want to happen to anybody and obviously yourself."

Mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor has testified that he had consensual sex with a woman who is suing him for sexual assault and claimed she had told nothing but lies. McGregor testified Wednesday in the High Court in Dublin that the woman told a "full blown lie among many lies." The alleged victim said McGregor brutally raped and battered her in a penthouse at a Dublin hotel on Dec. 9, 2018. Police investigated but didn't bring charges against McGregor. McGregor said he didn't force the woman to do anything.

Beers scores 27 as No. 9 Oklahoma women set school scoring record in 122-56 win over W. Carolina

Raegan Beers had 27 points and nine rebounds, and No. 9 Oklahoma set a school scoring record to roll past Western Carolina 122-56. Beers was the AP Player of the Week for her dominant performances last week. The 6-foot-4 Oregon State transfer became the first Sooners player in 16 seasons to have back-to-back games with at least 20 points and 14 rebounds. She remained nearly unstoppable by making 12 of 14 field goals against the Catamounts. Sahara Williams scored 16 points and Skylar Vann added 15 for the Sooners. Tyja Beans led Western Carolina with 13 points.

Wander Franco released under supervision after gun arrest in Dominican Republic

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco has been granted supervised release after being arrested and charged for illegally carrying a gun in his vehicle during an altercation in a parking lot in the Dominican Republic. Dominican judge Viamerca Ruiz said Wednesday that Franco needs to report to court once a month while he is being investigated for carrying the firearm that was registered under his uncle's name. Franco, who awaits trial in a sexual abuse case, was arrested Sunday after an argument broke out in a San Juan de la Maguana apartment complex parking lot.

The ACC began the season fighting for respect. The early CFP rankings show it is an uphill battle

The Atlantic Coast Conference finds itself fighting for respect from the College Football Playoff selection committee. Miami was the only ACC team inside the coveted top 12 during the latest CFP rankings even though SMU is in first place with three weeks to go in the regular season. Mustangs coach Rhett Lashlee says the rankings in general don't make much sense. Lashlee believes there should be equal representation in the 12-team field from the four major power conferences. Only the winner of the ACC Championship is guaranteed a spot in the CFP field.

Caitlin Clark draws a big crowd for an LPGA pro-am in Florida

Caitlin Clark drained a 20-footer, this time with a putter. The WNBA rookie of the year played in the pro-am at the LPGA Tour event in Florida called The Annika. Clark brought her golf game and a big buzz to the tour. Pelican Golf Club was packed with spectators to watch Clark play nine holes with world No. 1 Nelly Korda and then Annika Sorenstam. Clark has an endorsement deal with Indiana-based Gainbridge, which sponsors the tournament. Brittany Lincicome brought a basketball for Clark to sign for her daughters. Lincicome says an appearance by the popular Clark can only help the LPGA Tour.

The most powerful position in rugby will be filled in the election for the next chairman of the sport's global governing body in Dublin on Thursday. Former France No. 8 Abdelatif Benazzi, former Australia flanker Brett Robinson and former Italy lock Andrea Rinaldo are the three candidates to succeed Bill Beaumont. Beaumont is stepping down after eight years in the role at World Rugby. If Robinson or the Morocco-born Benazzi wins, rugby will have its first non-European chairman. The winning ticket needs to secure a majority of the 52 votes on the World Rugby Council.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich had a stroke earlier this month, is expected to make full recovery

Basketball Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich has been away from the team because he suffered a mild stroke earlier this month, the San Antonio Spurs announced Wednesday. Popovich is in his 29th season as coach of the Spurs and there is no timetable for his return to the sideline, the team said. The stroke happened on Nov. 2 at the team's arena, and Popovich is expected to make a full recovery. The Spurs say "the organization is grateful to the extended community for providing privacy and space to the Popovich family."

Guardians manager Vogt tweaks staff after winning AL Central title. Willis, Alomar Jr. both return

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt made some tweaks to Cleveland's coaching staff following his successful first season with the club. Vogt was selected a finalist for AL Manager of the Year after leading the Guardians to 92 wins and an AL Central title. He promoted Craig Albernaz to associate manager. Albernaz was the club's bench coach in 2024. The team also promoted Grant Fink to be the team's hitting coach. He'll replace Chris Valaika, who joined manager Terry Francona's staff in Cincinnati. Two mainstays are returning for Cleveland as first-base coach Sandy Alomar Jr. will be back in 2025 for his 16th season and Carl Willis for his 15th. There had been speculation Willis might join Francona.

Jaxson Hayes sprains ankle in practice, leaving the Lakers thin at center behind Anthony Davis

Los Angeles Lakers backup center Jaxson Hayes has sprained his left ankle during practice, and he won't play when they host the Memphis Grizzlies. Hayes will be reevaluated within two weeks. The 7-foot Hayes is averaging 6.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game as the top backup for Anthony Davis. The only other player over 6-foot-9 on the Lakers' roster is 7-foot newcomer Christian Koloko, who has played in only two games.

Broncos assistant head coach Mike Westhoff steps down because of vision problems

Denver Broncos assistant head coach Mike Westhoff has resigned because of problems with his vision. The 76-year-old Westhoff is a former special teams coordinator with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints who came out of retirement to join head coach Sean Payton's staff in Denver in 2023. He was integral in the Broncos sporting some of the best special teams units in the NFL last year and again this season.

The National Basketball Players Association has connected with former Duke star and NBA player Kyle Singler's family after he said he fears for his life in a cryptic Instagram video he posted. The NBPA said it offers support to all current and former members. The 36-year-old Singler spoke slowly and was shirtless in the first video, which was posted Tuesday morning. It drew an outpouring of concern and support from former teammates and others and has been shared more than 12,000 times. He has posted two short videos since the first one. He was more stable in the second video while repeating some of the grievances from the first.

Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff says defenseman Mattias Samuelsson is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. Ruff called the severity of the injury "pretty strong." He didn't specify the nature but said Samuelsson is not expected to need surgery. Samuelsson was hurt in a 7-5 loss to Montreal on Monday, when a Canadiens player rolled up on his leg. Ruff listed leading scorer Tage Thompson and goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen as day to day, with both having an opportunity to play Thursday, when Buffalo hosts the St. Louis Blues.

France coach Didier Deschamps is fed up with questions about Mbappé's absence from his team

Even when he is not there for France, the focus remains on Kylian Mbappé. On the eve of a high-risk Nations League match against Israel, France coach Didier Deschamps was asked Wednesday if he had spoken with Mbappé about his decision to leave the Real Madrid forward out of his squad. Deschamps first joked that he had expected the question to be asked earlier during the press conference. Quickly back to his serious self, Deschamps then avoided a debate. "There are 23 players here. Kylian isn't here – please leave him alone," Deschamps said.

An arbitrator upheld five-year suspensions of the chief executives of Bad Bunny's sports representation firm for making improper inducements to players and cut the ban of the company's only certified baseball agent to three years. Ruth M. Moscovitch issued the ruling on Oct. 30 in a case involving Noah Assad, Jonathan Miranda and William Arroyo of Rimas Sports. The decision became public Tuesday when the Major League Baseball Players Association filed a petition to confirm the 80-page decision in New York Supreme Court in Manhattan. The union issued a notice of discipline on April 10 revoking Arroyo's agent certification and denying certification to Assad and Miranda.

Jets are trying to tackle their tackling issues at practice this week

The New York Jets are strapping on the pads at practice to get a grasp on their tackling woes. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said players will be in pads for individual drills Wednesday and then again Thursday for the entire practice after the Jets missed 20 tackles, according to Next Gen Stats, in their 31-6 loss at Arizona last Sunday. Ulbrich also gave a tackling presentation for the entire team Wednesday morning so everyone understands how they're attacking their issues. Missed tackles have been a major problem for the defense this season. That has contributed to New York's woeful 3-7 start.

Texas' move to the Southeastern Conference rekindled an old rivalry so intense that national championships hung in the balance and a U.S. president once made a special trip to attend. The Texas-Arkansas border clash is a feud that in its heyday was as big as any in the country. It renews this week when the No. 3 Longhorns and Razorbacks meet as programs in the same conference for the first time since 1991. The Longhorns and and Razorbacks have met a handful of times over the last three decades, but the rivalry still drips with lore among the old-timers around both programs.

Colts give Anthony Richardson the starting QB job for game against Jets and rest of season

Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen says quarterback Anthony Richardson will return to the starting lineup Sunday against the New York Jets and it's his job for the rest of this season. The move comes two weeks after Steichen benched Richardson in favor of 39-year-old Joe Flacco. But Flacco has struggled the past two weeks, committing six turnovers in two ugly losses. Steichen said he sat Richardson, the No. 4 overall draft pick in 2023, because he wanted to see Richardson working at a higher level behind the scenes. Steichen said he had seen progress on that front.

Jaguars rule out QB Trevor Lawrence against the Lions and hope to get him back after a bye

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence will miss his second consecutive game because of an injury to his left, non-throwing shoulder. Coach Doug Pederson says Mac Jones will start at Detroit on Sunday. Jacksonville has a bye week after playing the Lions, so Lawrence will get three weeks of rest before attempting to return against Houston in early December. Lawrence took a hit to his left shoulder while scrambling at Philadelphia on Nov. 3. Instead of sliding, he chose to go head-first and got hammered by linebacker Zack Baun. Lawrence practiced in a limited role last week but was ruled out before a 12-7 loss to Minnesota.

Alcaraz overcomes physical issues to move back into contention at ATP Finals. Zverev wins again

Carlos Alcaraz had his drop shot working and overcame physical issues to claim a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Andrey Rublev at the ATP Finals. The win put Alcaraz back into contention for a spot in the semifinals of the year-ending tournament for the top eight players. Alexander Zverev made it two wins in two matches by beating Casper Ruud 7-6 (3), 6-3. Zverev leads the group, Alcaraz and Ruud have one win each, and Rublev dropped to 0-2 after getting beat by Zverev in their opener.

The Eagles have been one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the country. They knocked down 300 or more 3-pointers in 15 straight seasons, including setting the NCAA record with 431 in 2018. Atlanta went 15-25 this year and qualified for the playoffs. The team has a strong young nucleus with Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray leading the way along with veteran center Tina Charles.

Greg Maffei is stepping down as president and chief executive of Formula 1 owner Liberty Media. The company says the 64-year-old Maffei will leave his role when his contract expires at the end of the year and become an advisor. Liberty Media's 83-year-old chairman John Malone will be the interim CEO. Maffei was a leading figure in the takeover of F1 in 2017 from long-time rights holder Bernie Ecclestone.

While lawmakers condemned antisemitism and agreed that perpetrators of the violence should be prosecuted and handed harsh punishments, opposition legislators accused Wilders of "pouring oil on the fire." The comments came in parliament on Wednesday as lawmakers debated the violence that followed a soccer match in the Dutch capital. Attacks on Israeli fans were widely condemned as antisemitic. Fans from both sides were involved in unrest.

Slippery slope: Scottish soccer club calls for donations after points deduction for uneven field

A lowly Scottish soccer club which once had "James Bond" actor Sean Connery on its books has been given a six-point deduction for having a sloping field. Now Bonnyrigg Rose is calling on its fans to help raise more than $127,000 to level out the playing surface and ensure the team doesn't receive any further punishments. Bonnyrigg was promoted to Scottish League Two in 2022 and has faced pressure from soccer authorities to fix the uneven field at its New Dundas Park home to meet the minimum requirements of the league. Bonnyrigg needs to provide details on how it plans to start levelling the field next summer. Bonnyrigg lists Connery, who died in 2020, as one of its notable former junior players.

South Africa's soccer president Danny Jordaan arrested on fraud and theft charges

South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan, who helped bring the first-ever FIFA World Cup tournament to Africa in 2010, has been arrested on fraud and theft charges. Jordaan is accused of using about R1.3 million ($72,372) of SAFA funds to hire a PR firm and a private security company for his personal benefit. Police said the arrest follows a raid by the country's Special Investigating Unit at the offices of SAFA in March. Jordaan led South Africa's World Cup bid committee which secured the rights to host one of the country's biggest sporting events in 2010.

The first-round tie will now be played on Friday. The scheduled start of the match between Japan and Romania on Thursday was moved back two hours as authorities planned to lift the severe weather alert early in the morning. Both the Billie Jean King Cup Finals and the Davis Cup Finals are taking place this month in the southern Spanish city.
