South Carolina coach Dawn Staley has gotten plenty of prominent congratulations since winning her third national title earlier this month. Staley may have been most thrilled over the flowers, merchandise and note she got from the "Queen B" herself, Beyonce. Staley gushed in a video posted to social media Wednesday where she read the note from the musical powerhouse as she sat next to the white flowers and the black T-shirt that said, "Always Been Country" in reference to Beyonce's latest release, "Cowboy Carter."

The council's decision still needs approval from the D-I Board, which meets next week. The new rules would go into effect immediately, though in reality they have already been enacted through a lawsuit filed late last year by a coalition of states. A judge in West Virginia granted a temporary injunction that lifted restrictions on multiple-time transfers.

Former Michigan center Tarris Reed Jr. announced Wednesday that he is transferring to UConn. The 6-foot-10 sophomore averaged 9.0 points and 7.2 rebounds this past season.  He entered the transfer portal shortly after Michigan fired head coach Juwan Howard in the wake of an 8-24 campaign. Reed made is decision to commit to the Huskies public Wednesday on social media. His arrival in Storrs follows the announcement by 7-2 sophomore Donovan Clingan last week that he would be leaving Connecticut after helping the team to two straight national titles to enter the NBA draft.

Marquette hires Cara Consuegra away from Charlotte to replace Megan Duffy

Marquette has filled its head coaching vacancy by bringing back Cara Consuegra. She is a former Golden Eagles assistant who spent the last 13 seasons running Charlotte's program. Consuegra went 225-169 in her 13 years at Charlotte as the 49ers earned one NCAA Tournament berth in 2022 and made six WNIT appearances. She was an assistant coach at Marquette on Terri Mitchell's staff from 2004-11. Marquette had been seeking a coach after Megan Duffy left to take over Virginia Tech. Duffy went 110-46 with three NCAA Tournament appearances in five seasons at Marquette.

U.S. Basketball Writers Association will name women's coaching award after UConn's Geno Auriemma

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced Wednesday that it will name its annual women's national coach of the year award after UConn's Geno Auriemma. The 70-year-old Hall-of-Fame coach just completed his 39th season at the school, guiding the Huskies to their record 23rd Final Four. Auriemma has led UConn to 11 national championships and six perfect seasons. He has won the USBA award six times. His 1,213-162 record gives him the best winning percentage (88.2%) in the history of college basketball and has him second on the all-time Division I wins list, just three games behind Stanford's Tara VanDerveer.

Clemson guard Chase Hunter enters NBA Draft, but retains eligibility to come back to college

Clemson guard Chase Hunter says he's entering the NBA draft, but retaining his eligibility should he want to come back to college. Hunter was the Tigers' third leading scorer this season at 12.9 points a game and started all 36 games. He helped Clemson advance to the Elite Eight last month, losing to Alabama to miss out on the Final Four. Hunter is a 6-foot-4 guard from Atlanta. He announced his decision Wednesday on social media. Hunter could return to school for a sixth season.

Duke's Jeremy Roach announces plans to enter NBA draft and transfer portal

Duke's Jeremy Roach is declaring for the NBA draft and entering the transfer portal if he returns to college. The 6-foot-1 guard announced his plans in a social-media post Tuesday night. He has an additional year of eligibility remaining, granted by the NCAA to players who competed during the COVID-19 pandemic season of 2020-21. Roach averaged 14 points last season to help Duke reach the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. He played for Mike Krzyzewski's final team that reached the 2022 Final Four.

Columbia's Abbey Hsu chosen as Met Writers Association Player of the Year

Columbia's Abbey Hsu was chosen as the top Division I women's basketball player in the tri-state area by the Met Writers Association. Carly Thibault-DuDonis of Fairfield University was selected the Maggie Dixon Met Coach of the Year and Meghan Andersen of Fairfield was named the Rookie of the Year. Hsu helped the Lions win a share of the Ivy League regular season title for the second straight year and earn the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth with an at-large bid. She also became the first Columbia player ever to be drafted to the WNBA when she was selected in the third round by the Connecticut Sun on Monday night.

Hofstra's Tyler Thomas chosen as Haggerty Award winner

Hofstra's Tyler Thomas was chosen as the Frank J. Haggerty Award winner Wednesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Seton Hall's Shaheen Holloway, who guided the Pirates to this season's National Invitation Tournament title, was selected as the Peter A. Carlesimo Coach of the Year. Tariq Francis of the New Jersey Institute of Technology was selected rookie of the year.
