SALT LAKE CITY — Utah gymnast MyKayla Skinner has officially set the Pac-12 record for most Gymnast of the Week awards with 10, surpassing former UCLA gymnast Vanessa Zamarripa, who was a nine-time honoree from 2009-13.
On Tuesday, the conference announced the sophomore’s third honor of the season. The recognition follows Skinner’s sweeping performance against Arizona State last week when she won every individual event title (9.95 on floor, 9.925 on bars, and 9.90s on vault and beam) and tied for the week’s highest all-around score (39.675) in the nation.
Skinner has made a splash since joining the Utah gymnastics team. As a freshman, she set Pac-12 single-season records for most Gymnast (7) and Freshman of the Week (6) awards. She’s claimed 60 career individual titles, including 16 all-around wins, which ranks fourth in the program’s history.
The 2017 NCAA all-around runner-up and Pac-12 all-around champion is currently the No. 2 all-arounder in the nation.
Utah has won four Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week awards this season — Skinner on Jan. 9, Jan. 16, and Feb. 13, and MaKenna Merrell-Giles on Feb. 6.
