GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. — Three people are dead and four others were injured after a helicopter crashed in the Grand Canyon Saturday evening, officials report.

The Papillon Airways helicopter crashed 60 miles west of Peach Springs near Quartermaster Canyon at about 5:20 p.m., according to Hualapai Nation Police Chief Francis Bradley. The Eurocopter EC130 was carrying a pilot and six passengers.

Bradley confirmed four individuals were being treated at the scene but information on the extent of their injuries was not immediately available.

Officials have not released the identities of the deceased victims pending family notification.

The investigation remains ongoing.
